Welcome!

Welcome to CLPC's Lenten Blog. As I reflected on the opportunity we have as a congregation to read Scripture together, I was reminded of Paul's thoughts in his writing to the Colossians (2:2-3): "My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and knit together in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

Our prayer is that as we share what we have learned, we will be encouraged and knit together as a congregation.

  1. Lead [us], O LORD, in the right path...Make your way plain for us to follow. (Psalm 5:8, NLT) Lord make that path straight and clear for us to see, so that we will be knit together according to your plan for us.

  2. His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of man; the Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Ps 147:10-11. As we watch the Olympics and marvel at the legs of man, (who are fearfully and wonderfully made by Him), the Lord reminds us that his greatest delight is when we put our hopes in His unfailing love.

  3. "In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice,
in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation" Psalm 5:3
What a humble reminder. How often do I greet the day with my legs running without bringing "my voice" before Him? As if I could possibly do This on my own, without Him? How often does He wait and I stood Him up? It is a reminder to me that He is waiting for us to greet Him with our requests and our praises, every morning. Thank you, for your grace, for waiting for us to lay our day at your feet.

  4. All throughout our readings today, I was reminded that in order to deepen my relationship with Jesus Christ, I must actively seek Him. Psalm 5 "In the morning I will direct it (prayer) to you and I will look up."
Amos 5:16 says 'Seek the Lord and live"
Hebrews 12:1,2 "...let us run with endurance the race set before us looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." Sharon H.
"How awesome is it that Psalm 147 says "He takes pleasure in those that fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy."
The Lord loves relationship, and takes pleasure in us when we hope in Him.

  5. Habbakuk 3 - images of the power of the Lord abound: "He stood and shook the earth"(v.6), "you crushed the leader of the land of wickedness" (v.23b), etc.. But that strength belongs to us as well, "the Sovreign Lord is my strength, he makes my feet like the feet of the deer" (v.19).
Lord, I regret when I act in my strength alone, for then I am seeking my will instead of your will. Forgive me. Show me how to use what you have already given to me. Amen.

  6. Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
like streams in the desert. Psalm 126:4
Christ went through the wilderness in order to be the stream that restores our fortunes.

  7. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:14 I've watched small segments of the Olympics this year. But in last night's brief viewing, I saw Lindsey Vonn demonstrate what it means to press on to a goal - despite injury, uncertainty, and adverse conditions -to win a Gold Medal in downhill skiing. In comparison I think I sometimes plod on...not press on. Lord, fill me with your Spirit so that I can "press on" for you.

  8. Ps. 31:24 "Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the Lord". The Lord never fails to hear our cries to Him. Help me Lord, to lean on you and not my understanding.
